Common Issues for Families
Parents and their children face many types of stress these days, especially in the fast-paced, high-achieving world of Silicon Valley. The blending of families from different marriages, peer and media pressures, questions about sexual orientation, and conflict over desires for increased independence can throw family dynamics into turmoil. In addition, kids can experience undue stress from the high expectations of well-meaning parents who themselves are successful achievers.
As an effective, collaborative problem-solver with you, I draw upon my experience in working with middle school, high school, and college students; my research for the Santa Clara Valley Chapter of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists investigating the stresses on families in Silicon Valley; and the various challenges I, too, faced in raising children.
How Can Counseling Help?
Many families who work with me experience enriched relationships, supported by better communication with each other. They experience less conflict and more enjoyment of each other as family patterns are explored and modified. Parents find they can be more effective, and children and adolescents can develop in emotionally healthy ways. In families that reach such a point in their growth, everyone earns the satisfaction of a happier home life.
